Faculty of Information Technology

1/ Introduction

a) Overview:

The Faculty of Information Technology was established in 1996 and started enrolling students in 2000. At the moment, there are 5 divisions in the faculty including: Software engineering, Information Systems, Computer Network and Telecommunications, Computer Techniques and Genral Computing skills used to serve the training of IT, Telecommunication and Computer Network engineers. The faculty staff includes: professors, senior lecturers, lecturers and other collaborators from the institutes, companies, national and international universities.

b) Missions and Strategic Visions

Based on the missions of the UT-HCMC, the Faculty of Information Technology has defined its missions as below:

• Training in graduate, postgraduate levels, in scientific research and technology transfer in the sector of Information Technology, Telecommunications and Computer Network.

• Creating excellent products in the sector of Information Technology to meet the demand of social-economic development and integrate to the world.

Regarding the strategic development plan, the faculty has the following orientations toward 2020:

• To 2020, the Faculty of Information Technology strives its best to become one of the strong training and researching center in the transport sector, become the main units in training, researching amd transfering the products specializing in information technology of the Ministry of Transport.

c) Training targets

The faculty has 6 specialized majors in:  Information Technology, Telecommunications ans Computer Network:

• Training infomation technology engineers who have strong and good qualifications, abilities to adapt advanced achievements of the information technology and make contributions to the developement of science and technology.

• Training engineers who can be able to efficiently exploit the computer softwares in control technology, information progress, technological systems, telecommunications, use the database about education, science, society and economy.

• Providing students with abilities of adaption, self-adjustment, problem solving, logical thinking...They can seek for job opportunities in the national anf international labour market.

3/ Training majors, levels

Information Technology major

The major shall:

• Provide students with general knowledge in setting up, managing, maintaining the projects. From that, studens can design and set up the high quality softwares as well as analyze, design and administrate all the software projects.

• Provide students with general knowledge in setting up and developing the information system in business administration, office administration, data management; Focus on the applying technologies such as: data modelization, database design approaches, information system analysis and design...

• Provide students with general knowledge in telecommunications, local and wide computer systems. From that, students can be able to design and set up the computer systems in many levels.

Computer Network and Telecommunications Major:

Our graduates will have the ability to design, install, administer and maintain computer networks and telecommunications.They can process digital signal or data, design and build applications in Internet; integrate their knowledge of the functional areas of information technology and telecommunications with their technical skills and competencies and apply this to solving problems in information technology and telecommunications industry; analyze and solve practical computer networking and telecommunications problems with effective communication and teamwork skills.

Training levels: undergraduate,  junior college, inter-college.

4/ Scientific research and technology transfer activities:

• Data exploitation: Researching on the knowledge inside a huge database.

• Smart traffic: Researching on measurements to apply information technology in transport.

• Research on OSI model including multi-stop network system, MIMO system, obstacle control in TCP...

• Image processing

• Soft computing and other applications.

All the lecturers in the faculty has actively done the scientific reseach and achieved many good results:

• Sussessfully checking and taking over 1 ministerial and 1 institutional scientific research topic;

• Some articles in the seminars and international journals;

• Departmental, institutional and inter-institutional seminars.

• Orientating and developing the scientific research activities among students.
